INDIA: Buy police uniform material from us, KHDC tells Govt

The Karnataka Handloom Development Corporation Limited (KHDC), which was initially set up to look after the interest of handloom weavers, is itself struggling to stay above water and is trying desperately to come out of the red in its financials. KHDC has now proposed to the government to make it mandatory for the police and the state transport department to purchase uniform material for its employees from it, so that it may be able to provide employment to its over 10,000 weavers. The government in the past had made it obligatory for the education department to purchase school uniforms for government managed schools from the KHDC, for which it has even made a provision in this year’s budget for Rs 5.4 billion.
